Radar reconnaissance beyond the optical image

Synthetic aperture radar complements cameras when distance, darkness or low optical contrast limit their usefulness. Combining radar observations with EO and ELINT data builds a more complete situational picture from one unmanned platform.

Wide-area coverage or a detailed look

Strip images a continuous ground swath; Spot focuses on a selected area. The appropriate radar is chosen for the required detail and coverage. No single range applies to every target and resolution; GPR is a separate sensor for subsurface surveys.

Cobra Plug-In GPR

GPR · subsurface survey

152/W project · 2026

Low-frequency GPR for geological and engineering surveys. It images subsurface interfaces, not a landscape image like SAR.

Configuration
Single channel, unshielded antenna
Antenna alternatives
SE-40 / SE-70 / SE-150
Centre frequency at εr = 9
52 / 80 / 124 MHz
SE-40 / 70 / 150 lengths
200 / 139 / 92 cm
Variant weights listed by SPH
5.2 / 4.9 / 4.6 kg
Data output
SEG-Y (.sgy), geotagged traces

Specifications refer to SPH Engineering's airborne variant. Antenna, installed weight and achievable depth require confirmation for the 152/W project; follow-up surveys must establish water presence and quality.

Strip SAR

Reference MM07774 (2019); the manufacturer must confirm the current variant. Mapping resolution and range are interdependent. Installation also involves the antenna, processing and accessories.

IMSAR

NSP-3

Compact SAR radar

Catalogue alternative · integration unconfirmed

A lightweight radar system combining an electronics module with a separate antenna.

Weight
5.9 lb / 2.7 kg, manufacturer figure
Power consumption
< 74 W
Supply voltage
28 V DC
Radar band
